Touched by My Daughter's Teacher

"Mom, I really like my math teacher at cram school, because she truly loves her job."

Education is a journey where one life impacts another. Children are completely capable of sensing how a teacher views their own profession; they can feel whether a teacher’s heart is truly in it.

Late in the evening, those two short sentences from my eighteen-year-old daughter brought a sparkling look to her eyes and a confident smile to her face. As a mother, I felt a deep sense of gratitude. Every parent hopes that when their child goes out into the world, they will cross paths with mentors who guide them, and discover people and things that bring them joy. With the abundant emotions I hold, even a tiny spark of joy like this makes me just as happy as my child!

What struck me as unique was that my daughter didn't like her teacher because of how special she treated her, or because of some extraordinary teaching technique. It was simply because the teacher "loves her job." This is a perspective truly worth exploring.

Me: "How can you tell that your math teacher loves her job?" My Daughter: "Because she can teach the entire day without ever looking tired." Me: "That reason feels a bit of a stretch." My Daughter: "It's true! Looking at her, you just feel that being a teacher is an amazing job. She never complains about being tired. She’s clearly been standing all day, yet she’s still so full of energy. Plus, she stays until the very end just to let students ask questions, showing endless patience. She never gives up on a single student. I can feel that her ultimate satisfaction comes from pulling every single student up."

In addition to "the teacher truly loves her job," another beautiful highlight emerged: "She never gives up on a single student." Exactly. When a child knows that a teacher won't give up on them, they, in turn, will never give up on themselves. And the teacher’s vibrant energy lets the students know—teacher truly loves you all!

If a student is a butterfly cradled in our hands, then the teacher’s fingertips are their safe harbor. If a child harbors a deep curiosity about the world inside them, the teacher's conduct determines whether that spark is ignited or extinguished. If a teacher firmly believes that their work can alter the trajectory of the next generation's life, then the children will also learn to write their own life stories with love and passion. How beautiful that is!

Being a teacher is far more than just a job. What measures a teacher is not merely the content of their syllabus, but the depth of their emotions and the richness of their life. This profession bestows a profound mission upon us—and without a doubt, the children are grading us on it, too.
